Northern reveals strong bakery rise

Northern Foods has reported strong underlying growth in its bakery division, with revenue up 3.9% for the 26 weeks to 26 September 2009. Food and drink manufacturers continue to invest in NPD

New research shows that more than half of food and drink manufacturers say that they will be investing in new product development (NPD), despite continuing and widespread economic uncertainty. Belfast bakery struggles under weight of debts

Millers Traditional Bakery is fighting to stay in business and protect 60 jobs after running up big debts. The Belfast family-run baker hopes to reach a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) with creditors to avoid liquidation after one of those owed money – Latimer Electrical Services Limited – brought a wind-up petition. Vegetarians could be Taking the Pea

Researchers in Canada have produced meat analogues from pea proteins with a fibrous texture closely resembling chicken and fish. Soy protein-based meat analogues were well established, said Dr Jay Han at the Leduc Food Processing Development Centre in Alberta. The UK’s largest £20M anaerobic digestion plant in Yorkshire is inviting regional manufacturers and retailers to help supply it in a major national drive to eliminate food waste sent to landfill.
